Celtic Festival Weeks
Celebrating the cycles of nature
On Erraid we love celebrating the Celtic Festivals. Each festival holds a specific energy which we honour in our meditations, rituals, traditions and celebrations. During our Celtic Festival Weeks you will have time to feel into the quality of the season and deeply connect to the changing rhythms of land, sea, sun and air, taking time to contemplate how these outer changes are reflected within your inner life. We love to co-create with you so your ideas, creativity, experience and passion are welcome too!

The Wheel of the Year
The Celtic Festivals celebrate the times where the turning of the Wheel of the Year becomes tangible through the changes that can be seen, felt, heard, smelled and tasted in the natural world around us. The change in light and temperature, in the colours and growth of trees, flowers, crops, in the food we harvest and eat, in the sounds and scents carried on the breeze and in the rhythms of our own personal life. Each season holds different qualities and experiences - outer changes reflecting within our inner landscape.
The Eight Celtic Festivals
Every significant seasonal change is celebrated in one of the eight Celtic Festivals, which are honouring the four big solar events of the year - the solstices and equinoxes - and the midpoints between them. The four quarter festivals mark the the longest day of the year (Summer Solstice) and the longest night of the year (Winter Solstice). Spring and Autumn Equinox mark the two times of the year where day and night are of equal length all around the planet. At the midpoint between each Solstice and Equinox are the four cross-quarter festivals: Imbolc in the beginning of February, Beltane on the night to the first of May, Lughnasadh in the beginning of August and Samhain on the night to the first of November.
Outer, Inner and Other Worlds
Each festival carries its own energy which is closely connected to the seasonal changes in nature. The yearly cycle of sowing, growing, ripening and dying. These changes in our outer world are mirrored by the seasonal changes of our inner world: In spring and summer we move forward with new dreams, ideas and projects and in autumn and winter we withdraw into our inner worlds to rest and dream into our future.
During many of the Celtic Festivals it is said that the veil between the worlds is thinning and contact to the otherworld more easily made. So each festival offers us the opportunity to let go, transform, renew and manifest our dreams and desires with the love and support of the unseen worlds.
Celebrate the Magic of the Celtic Festival Weeks at Erraid
On Erraid we invite you to step into the heart of Celtic traditions, where each festival offers a doorway into the dance that moves within ancient rhythms and elemental forces, calling you to reconnect with nature, spirit, and self. These sacred times mark our deepest connections with all our kindred spirits of the unseen worlds which are part of land, sea, sun, and air — each homecoming reunion becoming a celebration, a vibrant dance with the shifting energies of the year.
Every week is crafted around one of the eight Celtic festivals, honouring the ancient cycles of nature and life through meditation, ritual, and co-creation with fellow participants. From the promise of Imbolc’s budding life to the peak of summer’s light at Solstice, from Beltane’s fiery passion to Samhain’s mysterious veil between worlds, each festival embodies the magic of transformation.
Join us to experience the powerful renewal and mystical momentum these times bring by connecting to the earth’s cycles of transition and harmonising these outer energies with your inner journey. Together, we light fires, share stories, and honour both our ancestors and our dreams, our past and future, fostering a profound connection that grounds and uplifts.
Come to Erraid and feel the deep pulse of the Celtic spirituality which is anchored in the island's ancient landscape and nourishes your spirit with every turning of the Wheel. Embrace the mystical, timeless essence of these sacred traditions and find your place within their rhythms.
Available experiences
Imbolc
1-7 February 2025
Imbolc is the time of year when according to folklore the Celtic Goddess Bride walks the land, snowdrops blooming at her bare feet as she warms the earth and melts the snow. A metaphor for the reawakening of lifeforce energy after the winter slumber of all life. This energy of renewal helps us to leave behind what no longer serves us and prepare for the coming of spring. We plant the first seeds in our gardens and also seeds of hopes, dreams and ideas within ourselves, accepting that they will take time to germinate. We gently nurture the emerging light and the fiery energy that has lain quiet within us during the winter months.
Spring Equinox
15-21 March 2025
Spring Equinox is a time of balance. Day and night are of equal length all over the world. Here in the Northern Hemisphere the days are becoming longer and warmer. Everything in nature is coming alive. A time of growth and fertility, of excitement and joy. We feel the renewed energy of nature and are aware that the seeds we have sown in our gardens and the hopes and dreams we have planted within our hearts are germinating and reaching for the light. As the natural world surges into spring, we step into our own life force and reach out for what we want to see blossoming in our lives.
Beltane
26 April - 2 May 2025
A festival for honouring the union of male and female energies in nature and within ourselves. In Celtic tradition Beltane marks the arrival of summer. The earth is bursting with growth and our lives are overflowing with the power of our potential. Passion, fertility, creativity and sexuality are celebrated as we are stepping out more powerfully into the world. It is a time to let go of old habits, patterns and relationships, transform and immerse ourselves into a new way of being. We will light bonfires to manifest our dreams and desires at this time where the veil between our world and the otherworld is drawn for one night.
Summer Solstice
21-27 June 2025
The sun is at the height of its power and we celebrate the longest day of the year. A time of appreciation for the natural bounty overflowing from our gardens and for reflecting on abundance in our own lives. As the Wheel of the Year slowly turns towards the lengthening nights whispering of autumn and winter we join with others to celebrate light and life. This is a wonderful time to enjoy the long summer nights and beautiful sunrises and sunsets amidst some of the most breathtaking landscapes on the West Coast of Scotland. During this time a week feels like one long day, the sun dipping below the horizon only for a few hours each night.
Autumn Equinox
20-26 September 2025
This is a time for reconciling opposites, to bring our different aspects into balance: male and female, dark and light, old and young. Let’s honour and celebrate our ‘whole self’ and all life. Let’s enjoy the abundance of our gardens as we gather in our produce and come together to give gratitude and celebrate nature’s bounty. As we enjoy the fruits of our work we acknowledge that the seeds for next year’s harvest are already sleeping in this year's produce - in the natural world and also in our hearts. The seeds we hold today are the source of all our future harvests.
Samhain
25 October - 7 November 2025 (2 weeks)
This is the summer’s end and the beginning of the Celtic New Year. A time when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest. A time to remember our loved ones and honour our ancestors. We will be lighting the sacred fire and leaving space in our midst for the souls gone from this plane so that they may also enjoy the company of friends and loved ones as we tell stories, sing, dance and feast.
Winter Solstice
20 December - 2 January 2025 (2 weeks)
During the time of the Winter Solstice we celebrate one of the most important turning points of the Wheel of the Year: The return of the Light - the promise of the growing warmth and brightness of the sun, held deep within the longest night. From the exact time of the Winter Solstice the days are going to slowly grow longer again. This time marks the great pause, the great standstill of nature. The time between the outbreath of autumn and the inbreath of spring. A time out of time. A time for deep rest and reflection. A time to stop, relax and take stock before the wheel starts to turn again. We can allow ourselves to deeply rest, review the year which is ending and dream into the new year to come.
