Peace of Iona

In the time of outer darkness we will kindle our inner fire

9 - 22 November 2024

As the nights draw in and winter approaches we will let the fading light of the season guide us into a time of inner stillness and deeply rest, reflect and renew. On the sacred Isle of Iona we will immerse ourselves into the spirit of winter and share meditations, rituals, walks, sacred songs, conversations by candle light and more. As we are turning within we will connect with the magic and wonder of life; dreaming into our future, nourishing our heart’s desires, tending our inner fire of hope and joy.

Enjoy our cosy house Traigh Bhan for a two week long retreat with plenty of time for yourself and shared time with our small group. Donald, Britta and Anka (the mini labradoodle) are looking forward to holding sacred space for you!

  • In the stillness of the season we will embrace the ancient landscape of Iona, which has been an important place of spiritual pilgrimage for centuries. During our retreat we will have time to connect to the magnificence of nature and to the Spirit of this sacred land as the earth prepares to rest and the rhythms of the island are quieting down.

    Traigh Bhan

Nestled on the shores of Iona, Traigh Bhan offers a unique space where time seems to stand still. Here, we will explore the spiritual practices that deepen our connection to this ancient land. Through guided meditations and contemplative walks, you will immerse yourself in the beauty of early winter days—rich in its contrasts of golden light, crisp air, everlasting sunrises and sunsets and the possibilities of wild weather and dancing waves …

    More about the retreat

You will experience rituals that honour the cycles of nature, meditations that invite deep listening, and peaceful walks that follow ancient pilgrimage routes across the land and time to share your experiences within our small group. We will also join in the daily tasks of community life together as we are practising ‘Work as Love in Action’.

This time of year invites us to slow down and tune into the wisdom of the earth as she shifts from fullness to rest. Our daily practices, whether spent out on the land or reflecting in the warmth of candlelight, aspire to help you connect more deeply with yourself and the sacred world around you.

Allow the Peace of Iona to guide you inward, as you reconnect with the rhythms of nature and the stillness of your soul. Whether you are seeking renewal, reflection, or simply a space to pause and reset, this retreat offers a sanctuary for your journey into the heart of the season.

Iona is a magical place and Traigh Bhan is a magical house. I especially enjoyed my own meditations in the Sanctuary as well as the walks with the other participants.

  • This retreat is an opportunity to ground and prepare for the winter season. We will hold rituals that honour the cycles of nature, have meditations together that invite deep listening, and go on peaceful walks that follow ancient paths across the land. We will also tend the garden, quietening our mind and body in tune with the hibernation of the plants.

This time of year invites us to slow down and tune into the wisdom of the earth as she shifts from fullness to rest. Our daily practices, whether spent tending the land or reflecting in the warmth of candlelight, are crafted to help you connect more deeply with yourself and the sacred world around you.

  • Vegetarian meals are provided so you don't need to bring food with you. However, if you have any dietary requirements please let us know when you book.

  • We are unfortunately unable to provide private rooms. To make use of the small number of bedrooms available, all rooms are shared.

  • While we will do our best to accommodate your needs, we are restricted in what we can offer due to the remoteness of the location. Our Traigh Bhan retreat house is set in the middle of a field and there are steps and narrow doors in the house itself.
