Embracing Solitude on the Isle of Erraid
“These people and this place gave me hope.”

Johanna visited our community on the Isle of Erraid in November 2023 and created a beautiful video about the time she spent on this tiny island on the Scottish West Coast. Like all our guests she stayed in one of the old lighthouse keeper’s cottages “far from civilisation and society, far from noise and stress.” She describes her magical experience like this:
“Stillness, solitude and peace is what I found here and what I want to share with you. I had the most beautiful, peaceful and quiet week of my life out there on this stunningly beautiful island at the west coast of Scotland.”

In her video Johanna takes us along on her Erraid adventures and shares some special moments with us: swimming in the sea (yes, in November!), lighting the woodburning stove, seeing rainbows, harvesting fresh mint in Erraid’s organic gardens for her tea, playing the drum in wild places, walking on the island with her group …

Johanna summarises her stay on Erraid like this:
“Life is just so simple here and that is what makes it so special. I met wonderful people who deeply inspired me and I came a little closer to myself. I had moments of shared presence and sweet solitude. Moments of laughter and moments of stillness. These people and this place gave me hope. Hope for a life in harmony with nature, animals and humans.”
Thank you, dear Johanna, for sharing these magical moments with us! It means a lot!
