Interview with Granville Stone, RP Network coordinator
How did you come to Findhorn?
In 1976, I received a copy of Paul Hawken’s book ‘The Magic of Findhorn’ – the latest ‘Book of the Month’, chosen at random and posted to me by the World Book Club which was I subscribed to.
The book is a narrative about the Findhorn Foundation (FF), and when reading that it was a community which credited its existence to inner guidance, it sent shock waves through my being, and knew I had to go there. I too had always perceived and followed guidance as best I could but had never met anyone else who did, and here was a whole community of kindred souls who were trying to live their lives in this way and succeeding!
But how could I go there? Affording the cost, and using up my annual leave to visit the Findhorn Foundation instead of spending it with my young family, made it seem impossible. However, I hadn’t taken into account that I too, was subject to the same Magic described in the book, as out of the blue, and literally within days of casting my desires into the heavens, my employer asked if I would go to Inverness to work as the engineer on the construction of a new bridge project across the Moray Firth – a bridge that was just an hour’s drive away from my beloved ‘Findhorn’. Wow, was this the greatest miracle of my life?
And yes, I did volunteer, and spent a whole year visiting the community at every opportunity!
How did you become an RP?
I had, during my frequent visits to the community, got to know about the role of RPs and how they supported the FF, and discovered to my delight on my very first visit that RP Alisdair McKay lived just around the corner from the flat I’d rented in Inverness. I felt prompted to follow in his footsteps and became an RP in 1979. Alisdair became a close friend of our family and he invited me to be best man at his wedding seven years later!
How did you become RP Focaliser?
Perhaps the most significant reason for wishing to volunteer for the role of RP Focaliser, and perhaps to you the strangest, is the result of a visit from Dorothy on the eve of her passing.
This was not a new phenomenon in my life but part of a lifelong development and an increasing involvement in helping to ‘lighten’ the load on humanity – a full account of this work and how it led me to Findhorn’s gates is recorded in the book I wrote ‘Letting the Soul Decide’, published in 2012.
As always, such happenings are spontaneous and, in this experience, I became aware of Dorothy following me upstairs and into our bedroom as we retired for the night. She stood at the end of our bed for several seconds until the moment I acknowledged her presence with heartfelt feelings of love – then nothing!
These experiences almost always leave behind questions and this was no different, especially after reading an email the next day informing the RPs that Dorothy had passed into the light the previous evening!
Why had Dorothy visited? After all she must have had many close friends and associates. These were questions that were all answered when I read an email asking if any RP would like to become the next Focaliser! It was one of those eureka moments set off with another visit by Dorothy whispering into my left ear ‘you know what you should do’ accompanied with insight flooding my mind bringing together the awareness that I’d folded up my company, had moved meditations sessions onto the web to practice Zoom sessions, and was internet ready. This was all presumably in preparation to take on the role of Focaliser. Which I did!
Peter Caddy, one of the founders of the FF, always advised that it’s important to respond to guidance without delay, otherwise the magical moment is lost.
I’ve been blessed to have been witness to many inner and outer developments during my forty five years as an RP. The Angel of Findhorn's transformational field has extended to the whole world, which from my perspective has led to the Findhorn Foundation becoming so active via the internet. Whether coincidence or serendipity, the Foundation has undoubtedly fulfilled the needs of Divinity by utilising what the RP Network does best – the ability to channel the transformational field to the grass roots of society, consciously or subconsciously.
This latest development of connecting more intensively into the World Wide Web is one of several reasons why I didn't hesitate to offer to be the new RP Focaliser. It’s a medium that is very useful for holding regular meditations and sharing sessions, helping to take the whole RP Network into a closer global communion.
What is your role?
To coordinate the RP network, keeping RPs updated to ensure that the FF message is congruent and consistent around the world.
To keep RPs up to date with Findhorn related activities undertaken by other RPs using the regularly posted RP Newsletter,
Holding Zoom Meditations for RPs at regular intervals
Holding mini gatherings with RPs who live at the FF or are visiting the FF.
Promoting and supporting the FF in any way that can.
To encourage RPs to undertake the duties that are listed on the RP information pack
Having been an RP for 42 years, when taking on the role of Focaliser, I resolved to hold the vision of creating an ever-strengthening bond not just between RPs but also between RPs and the FF. To achieve this I have, and will continue to…
Organise zoom sessions between FF members and RPs
Support, promote and provide, updated presentations by the FF whenever available
Remain aware of any RP’s misalignment with the three founding principles
What is an RP?
Resource people are people who:
Feel a strong desire to stay connected with the spirit and work of the FF after they have left Findhorn, and can share the spiritual essence of this community with others
Have lived in the community in the past and/or who visit regularly and stay connected to maintain current and updated knowledge of the FF and Community
Are aligned with the vision and mission of the Foundation and actively promote and demonstrate the three founding principles of the Findhorn Foundation in daily life:
Inner Listening
Co-creation with Nature
Work as Love in Action
Are a contact point for anyone wanting to know about Findhorn and for those guests of the Foundation who want to connect with others who’ve experienced Findhorn
Communicate and present well
Speak and write English
Are able to serve in their role on a volunteer basis
What is the role of an RP?
Though there is a set of guidelines, every RP has their own way of fulfilling their role; some give regular presentations, some promote Findhorn at holistic fairs, others bring groups to Findhorn. However, every RP has attuned to share their own experience of Findhorn and answers queries connected to the place and its principles.
Some of the things RPs do includes:
Giving presentations to promote the FF to local community/groups
Collaborating with other RPs in their area and, where feasible, participate in local holistic fairs, promoting the work of Findhorn in the world
Organising tours/workshops of FF folk in the local area
Responding to requests by FF to host Foundation activities
Where can I find RPs?
There are 151 RPs who live in 36 countries, and they could live anywhere!
You can find a full list of RPs you can connect with in your local area at www.findhorn.org/global-community
How can they support me?
Your local RP will be aware of Findhorn related events or workshops in your area, both online and in person, that you may want to take part in.
They will also be able to answer questions you have about connecting with Findhorn in your own language and put you in touch with other people in your area that may be part of the Findhorn Foundation worldwide family.
What else would you like to share about the RPs?
Whenever receiving enquiries to connect with RPs, the request is forwarded to several RPs within that particular country, if relevant. This is primarily to encourage the development of the friendships between RPs and help develop the Findhorn Foundation extended family.
